Deutsches Forschungszentrum für Künstliche Intelligenz (DFKI), Germany
The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, DFKI, is active in the field of innovative information technologies as Germany's leading business-related research institute. It carries out research and development in the areas of language technology, knowledge management, intelligent visualization and simulation systems, deduction and multi-agent systems and intelligent user interfaces.
DFKI also houses the German Competence Center for Speech and Language Technology funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The Competence Center includes LT-World, the web-based information portal providing comprehensive information about all areas of speech and language technology; LT-Eval, the evaluation center of LT applications in real-life scenarios; and LT-Demo, the German demonstration center in which up-to-date LT results and products are presented to the press, to scientific developers and industrial users.
DFKI projects cover the whole range from application-oriented basic research to market and customer-oriented development of product functions. It was founded in 1988 as a non-profit corporation, with sites in Kaiserslautern and Saarbrücken. At present it has some 180 employees and annual revenues of approximately 15 million euros.
